It may be the case that you and your ex-partner can’t agree on a specific issue in relation to your child. In these circumstances, an application can be made in order for the Court to step in to make the decision which is then recorded within an order called a Specific Issues Order and which both parents are bound by.

What types of issues can a Specific Issues Order be used to address?

The following issues are examples of the types of specific issue disputes that the court can be asked to deal with and include but are not limited to: –

• Deciding which school your child should go to;
• Deciding whether to allow one parent to relocate with a child either internally i.e. to a different part of the country or externally i.e. abroad.
• Deciding what type of medical treatment your child should receive if they are ill; and
• Deciding on your child’s involvement with a particular religion or religious practices which one parent follows.
