In our latest “Getting to Know” we talk to Kelly Walters from our Family Law Team here at Consilia Legal.
Kelly is a Senior Family Associate Solicitor and Integrated Mediator and specialises exclusively in family law. She has experience in handling high net worth divorce cases and frequently advises clients from around the world including Hong Kong, America and the UAE.
Q: How many years of experience do you have in the legal sector?
I have been working in the legal sector for 23 years, and joined Consilia Legal in 2019.
Q: What has your career journey looked like so far?
Initially I worked in a number of areas including civil litigation, family law (including private and public), landlord and tenant and immigration. Then in 2008, I began specialising solely in family law.
Q: Describe your day-to-day role
Day to day involves dealing with financial disputes between married and unmarried couples and resolving child arrangements in legal matters. As a mediator, I deal with the exact same disputes but in a mediation setting, helping the people involved find a solution they can all agree to outside of the courtroom.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy helping families achieve financial stability for themselves and their family and finding long- term sustainable arrangements for their children.
Q: What do you find most challenging about your role?
Most challenging includes client management for those with unrealistic expectations.
Q: What piece of advice would you give someone looking for an family lawyer?
Find someone who listens to you, who understands your situation and what you are trying to achieve.

Q: Who inspires you?
I’m inspired by political figures…but let’s not get into politics now!
Q: What do you like doing in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with my family.
